Thank Donors Better

Donors love it when they get a phone call from their Board Chair or a Board Member shortly after making a donation. However, the best way to thank donors is to get to know them – old-school style, in real-time, genuinely get to know them - and keep getting to know them as your relationship with them grows stronger.

Know their favorite aspects of your organization and send them updates on the programs they car about most.

Know their personal interests so that if you see an article or hear of an upcoming event (show, play, meet-up, etc.) you can send it their way and let know you thought they might be interested.

Try for 5 pieces of outreach that don’t ask for anything between each solicitation – a thank you email, a thank you phone call, a letter from Board Chair, a special update on their favorite program, a birthday card, an invitation to tour, a Fundraise.com invitation to be guest at special event, a major donor holiday party, a meeting to ask for feedback and/or advice…

Make sure you go the extra mile in saying “thank you,” and showing your appreciation so donors never feel like the only time you contact them is to ask for money.
